Welcome. Healing begins with understanding, compassion, and support. I specialise in helping individuals overcome the effects of childhood sexual abuse, sexual violence, trauma, anxiety, estrangement, and other emotional challenges.
My therapy story started after a long career in education. A significant event led to me seeing a therapist, and wow, what a game changer. Through therapy and hypnotherapy, my life transformed, perhaps more importantly, my inner world. I took this experience and retrained into counselling so I could understand the "magic" (as one client once called it), that had happened. My training has taken 8 years, with one more to go before I reach the highest level of qualification, that of Doctor. This level of training places you in safe hands. It is hard to know where to start when your mind feels like it has hijacked you, but if you are reading this, the first step is complete. The next? Give me a call, and let's talk; together, we can 'figure it out', and you too, can find the peace of mind that comes from recognising that you are an expert in yourself.
My approach is client-centred, collaborative, and evidence-based. I prioritise building a trusting and safe therapeutic relationship. I utilise a range of tools to support our understanding of your challenges. For example:
Genograms to map out family systems.
Timelines to outline historical events that can help us understand your resilience to psychological distress.
Mood cards to assist when the words cannot be found.
Art for when words are not enough.
Talking therapy to investigate and explore.
Hypnotherapy to help overcome mental blocks.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for persistent thoughts or behaviours.
Psychoeducation using neuroscience and biology to understand the physiology of psychological distress.
I will focus on working in ways that best suits you, always in collaboration.
I have an MSc in Psychology and a Professional Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling. I have amassed several thousand hours of delivering trauma-informed therapy, with a specialisation in working with childhood sexual abuse and sexual violence. I am currently undertaking a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology, with just one year to go! This means that you will receive therapy informed by the latest psychological research. If you are curious, here is my list of weekends with my head in a book!
